Biography

Marko Andjelkovic is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over ten years' combined experience in civil and geotechnical engineering, predominantly within the railway sector and on projects affecting operational railway infrastructure.

He has extensive experience working as a consultant to Network Rail, particularly within its Asset Protection (ASPRO) and Structures Asset Management teams. He has undertaken a range of engineering and assurance roles, including Geotechnical Project Engineer (PE), Designated Project Engineer (DPE), Asset Engineer (AE) and Network Rail Interface Manager (NRIM).

His project experience includes HS2-related works, new railway bridges and stations, depot enhancements, under-track crossings (UTXs) and developments adjacent to or above operational railway tunnels. This breadth of experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the multidisciplinary engineering challenges, technical interfaces and complexities associated with delivering infrastructure projects within an operational railway environment. His responsibilities have included reviewing third-party engineering designs, construction methodologies and associated engineering risks, assessing compliance with Network Rail and industry standards, and evaluating the potential impacts of construction activities on the safety and operation of railway infrastructure.

In 2025, Marko founded MA Consulting Engineers, an independent civil and geotechnical engineering consultancy specialising in geotechnical design, temporary works and railway engineering. Through his consultancy, he has undertaken roles as Contractor's Responsible Engineer (Design) (CRE-D) and Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM). His work encompasses geotechnical, temporary and permanent works design, independent Category 3 design checking, and technical advice to developers, contractors and consultants undertaking works on or adjacent to railway infrastructure.

Prior to this, Marko spent almost six years with Tony Gee and Partners, including industrial placements, progressing from Student Engineer to Senior Engineer. During this period, he was involved in the design and delivery of numerous medium- and large-scale earthworks and drainage remediation schemes across the Network Rail infrastructure. He also led a design checking team responsible for reviewing more than 30 engineering design packages on a major infrastructure scheme.

His combined experience in engineering design, construction methodology, independent technical assurance and the assessment of engineering risk provides a strong foundation for investigating engineering failures, assessing design adequacy and providing independent technical advice in civil, geotechnical and railway infrastructure disputes.

Marko holds a first-class MEng in Civil Engineering from Loughborough University, during which he completed an Erasmus exchange at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). He has been a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE) since 2020.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I instruct a geotechnical or railway engineering expert?

Tell us about the matter using the form on this page: the issues, the forum and any deadline. We check availability and conflicts, then introduce you so you can agree the instruction directly.

Does Mr Andjelkovic cover works next to the railway?

Yes. Assessing third-party works on or near operational railway infrastructure, and their risks to Network Rail assets, is at the core of his work for Network Rail and through his own consultancy.

Does Mr Andjelkovic owe a duty to the court?

Yes. Like every expert instructed through us, his overriding duty is to the court, not to the party paying for the report.
